Sails are peak sportfishing. The biggest tournaments in the state are centered around fishing for these off the kites. Sails are highly migratory species that swim South along the Western edge of the Gulf Stream in search of food. You can often see them up sea, tailing and surfing waves on the way to your kite spread. They are South Florida’s fish mascot and we take a lot of time and effort not only to catch these but to safely release them after the fight. Although legal, we, along with 99% of the Miami fishing fleet do not harvest these fish. They’re worth exponentially more in the water to be caught again as opposed to being on a plate.
